Tied in faith. Sent in Hope. Wrapped in Love.

              In 2013, LWR challenged Lutherans across the United States to donate 500,000 quilts to send around the world to people in need. The campaign wrapped up in May, 2014 and the final count totaled 485,931 quilts. This was by far the most quilts LWR ever received in one year.

              That means hundreds of thousands of people around the world will be wrapped in tangible symbols of God’s love. While the ultimate purpose of a quilt is to provide warmth, LWR quilts can also be:

  • a baby carrier, tied around a mother’s back;
  • a market display, spread on the ground and piled with vegetables;
  • a sack for transporting those goods to market;
  • a sunshade;
  • a shawl; and most importantly
  • a constant reminder that someone, far away, cares a lot.

              Making LWR quilts has allowed thousands of people here in the United States to discover the joy of serving their neighbor through quilting. Bonds have been created, renewed and strengthened and ministries have flourished.

              Here at St. Paul we have an active group of volunteers who work year round to produce LWR quilts. Those volunteers produced 62 quilts which were delivered to LWR in October. To get involved or learn more about LWR quilts contact Myrna Riechers.

Thanks be to God for the work of these volunteers!
